If there was ever a question that Jesus fulfilled the promise He made to us, "I will be with you always," Mt 28:20 we have only to delve into the History of the Church, to the periods when we were in dire straits, when it seemed as if the Church, as we have known her, would disappear, be destroyed under the pressure of the enemy. The greatest assurance that we have that Jesus will always be with us is to see how He has always been with us. In retrospect, as we read the script He hands us, we would think we were reading a story written for the movies or the stage, everything is so well planned. There is conflict; there is always a conflict. There are major players, unknowns until the Lord puts them into the drama, at which point they become stars of the Communion of Saints. Then He supplies us with a dramatic, suspense-filled story which always ends with us, the good guys, being triumphant. And the best part is the story is always true.
