Our Lady of Good Remedy

Our Lady of Good Remedy is a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary honored as a source of help, deliverance, and assistance in difficult situations. The devotion originated with the Order of the Most Holy Trinity, founded by Saint John de Matha in the late 12th century.

The Trinitarians were dedicated to ransoming Christians who had been taken captive, and they attributed many successful rescues to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin. She became known as "Our Lady of Good Remedy" because she provided a "good remedy" for the needs and sufferings of God's people.

O Queen of Heaven and Earth, Most Holy Virgin Mary,
we venerate thee and seek thy powerful intercession.
Thou art the dispenser of every grace that God grants us in our misery.
Through thy maternal love, obtain for us the remedy we seek in our present need.
O Mother of Good Remedy, help us place all our trust in thy Son, Jesus Christ,
and confidently seek thy assistance. Amen.
